FAQ
-
What joist/truss spacing do the Rafter Runners work with?Rafter Runners come in 25.5"x22.5" (12.3" tall) sections that are specifically designed to work perfectly with 24"o.c. joists/trusses. They can be installed perpendicular to joists (with the mounting tabs bent out) and also parallel to the joists (with the tabs not bent out). Each Runner can be installed in seconds in either the perpendicular or parallel configuration.
-
How do I create intersections with Rafter Runners?A vast array of intersections can be made with Rafter Runners by cutting a Runner along the embossed intersection cutline. Once cut, the Runner will intersect with a perpendicular Runner thereby creating 90 degree, Tee, and 4-way intersections.
-
How do I close off the end of a Rafter Runner tenting run?Matching end caps are available for purchase on this site to easily close off the end of a tenting run.
-
What fasteners are required to mount the Rafter Runners?Rafter Runners can be installed with staples, screws, nails, etc. It is recommended that 2-3 fasteners be installed in each of the mounting tabs or 4-6 fasteners in each side in a parallel installation. Rafter Runners are extremely versatile and can be mounted with a variety of fasteners.
-
How much weight/insulation can a Rafter Runner withstand?Rafter Runners have been tested under 26" of Sanctuary by Greenfiber cellulose blown-in insulation (26" equals 3.5psf) without any deflection, deformation, or structural concerns. Greenfiber insulation is one of the heaviest insulations on the market (17.3" to achieve R-60 equals 2.3psf) and Rafter Runners have been designed to withstand extreme levels of insulation. 26" of Sanctuary insulation equates to an approximate R-value of 90. For comparison, Johns Manville Climate Pro B-7700 blown-in fiberglass insulation weighs only 0.88psf at 20.25" for an R-value of 60. As you can see, Rafter Runners have been designed to handle even the heaviest insulation installations.
-
Have the Rafter Runners been heat tested?Yes. Rafter Runners have been thoroughly heat tested under the load of 26" of Sanctuary by Greenfiber blown-in cellulose insulation from 140 degrees Fahrenheit all the way to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. No issues were noted during testing proving Rafter Runners will perform well in even the hottest attic.
